The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) says it is a noble duty for everyone to pay tax because taxation is key to every economy.
Speaking during the graduation ceremony for the first ever Taxation and Law students at the Zambia Institute of Advanced Legal Education (ZIALE), ZRA Commissioner Indirect Taxes Moses Shuko said “it is important to understand how the tax system operates in Zambia, which laws support it, and how it is administered.”
Mr. Shuko stated that Zambia is part of the global economy with ever changing business reforms and ways of doing business, hence institutions have to keep evolving so that they are up to date with the new trends.
Meanwhile Mr. Shuko said “the diverse expertise of the taxation and law course participants is an indication that all sectors of society need knowledge for efficient service delivery and effective implementation of policies for national development.”
He was confident that the training will increase knowledge in the interpretation of various tax laws in the country, as the authority expects to see increased voluntary tax compliance for those charged with the responsibility of tax accounting.
And speaking at the same event, ZIALE Director and Chief Executive Officer Ann Malata-Ononuju said in supporting Zambia’s seventh National Development [lan 2017-2021, the institute has devised strategic objectives aimed at meeting the needs of various stakeholders by providing legal training in selected areas of the law.
Mrs. Ononuju explained that “the institute also provides diversified continuous professional development training to personnel in private and public institutions to enhance their entrepreneurial, managerial and professional skills thereby contributing towards creating a conducive governance environment for a diversified and inclusive economy.”
