Three unidentified men have been burnt beyond recognition while a 42 year-old truck driver escaped with injuries after two vehicles burst into flames following an accident in Kalomo today.
Both the truck’s horse and a chaser are also beyond recognition.
Southern Province Police Commissioner Bonny Kapeso tells Money FM News that the driver of the chaser with two passengers inside, was overtaking the truck when he cut in at a short distance forcing the truck to hit the chaser from the rear.
Mr. Kapeso says the truck, registration number 1395 AF05, 2098AB, was driven by Edious Shito, 42, of house No. 10065, Budulo in Zimbabwe.
He explains that both vehicles rolled into a river drainage and burst into flames due to the impact but the lone truck driver jumped off and sustained fractured leg and serious burns.
“After inspecting both vehicles, it was discovered that the truck had an improvised big tank full of petrol and yet its diesel propelled,” he said.
The Southern Province Police Chief says the three bodies have been taken to Kalomo district hospital mortuary while the truck driver has been evacuated to Livingstone.
Mr. Kapeso says the accident occurred at about 06:30hrs 5km south of Kalomo and the said vehicles were coming from Livingstone.
