State owned Power utility firm Zesco says its ability to provide reliable power supply to the Mines and other customers on the Copperbelt province has been compromised following the damage caused to a 330kilovolt transmission line between Kabwe stepdown sub-station and Luano Sub-Station.
Zesco Director for Strategy and Corporate Services Patrick Mwila, tells Money FM in a statement that with the outage of the transmission line, the remaining lines may experience overloading which could result in increased load shedding on the Copperbelt and North-Western provinces.
Mr. Mwila explains that this is to ensure that the power transmission system remains stable.
He adds that the maintenance team has moved on the site to assess the damage and commence repair works which will cost an estimated K1.3 million.
Yesterday, a 330 Kilovolt transmission line which is part of the 250 kilometers stretch transmission line supplying bulk power to Copperbelt and North-western Provinces was vandalized by unknown people.
