Turkey’s Development Cooperation agency, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordinating Agency, has reiterated Turkey’s commitment to supporting Zambia’s development agenda through institution-to-institution co-operation.
Agency President Dr. Serdar Cam said TIKA looks forward to opening a regional office in Lusaka to help build Zambia’s capacity in key economic sectors such as agriculture, tourism, education and health.
He further said the launch of the direct flight between Istanbul and Lusaka by Turkish Airlines scheduled for December 14, 2018, will enhance interaction between the business communities of the two countries and trigger development co-operation.
Dr Cam made the remarks when Zambia’s Ambassador to the Republic of Turkey, Dr Joseph Chilengi paid a courtesy call on him in Ankara today.
Meanwhile, Dr Chilengi described TIKA as a strategic partner, which has continued to play a major role in strengthening bilateral relations between Zambia and Turkey.
Dr Chilengi said Zambia appreciates Turkey’s support to the country’s development aspirations in many areas including health, tourism, media and provision of scholarships to Zambian students.
Dr Chilengi thanked TIKA for the decision to open a regional office in Zambia, which will create linkages for more economic cooperation between the two countries.
