US Govt tips Zambia on wildlife crime prevention

US Ambassador to Zambia Daniel Foote says the US government has an allocation of up US$1.5 per year that can go to wildlife crime prevention and support to cooperating partners involved in conservation around the country.
Mr. Foote says his government has been training security forces, police and wildlife police officers around the world from which Zambia can benefit.
Mr. Foote says all Zambia needs is to actualize commitments made in discussions of how best to improve the appreciation of conservation efforts as a country.
The envoy has expressed happiness at the amount of training put into Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) Police Officers in conservation of the area in the North Luangwa.
He said having recently visited the area the animal population reveals good conservation workmanship.
The US Embassy through USAID is the major sponsor of BioCarbon Partners work at Mukamba Gate entry to Lower Zambezi slated for launching on December 2018.
He said this when he met Tourism and Arts Permanent Secretary Reverend Howard Sikwela at his office.
And Dr. Sikwela says there is need for training and capacity building among his staff and other sector players to improve performance.
Dr. Sikwela said the training of village scouts and wildlife police officers needs to be followed up and improved.
He said other staff members also need capacity building in capturing of data including that of tourist arrivals, hotel grading among others capabilities to be enhanced.
The PS said every Zambian needs to have an attitude change towards the sector so that there is good reception when serving both visiting tourists and investors.
