The Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA) says the fourth mobile network provider Uzzi has delayed to start operations in the country following the six months extension period given to the company by the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
ZICTA Director General Patrick Mutimushi told Money FM News in an interview that the company is expected to start operations as soon as the extension period comes to an end.
“In December the Ministry of Transport and Communications did allude to the extension that Uzzi has been given an extension period, once that extension period comes to an end the company will be able to come through” Mr Mutimushi said.
Mr. Mutimushi adds that the extension period will come to an end in May this year after which the company may start its operations in Zambia.
“We are sure that with the extension Uzzi will be able to come through, the extension is going up to May this year”. He said.
Last year, former Transport and Communications Minister Dr. Brian Mushimba gave Uzzi a six month extension period to allow the network provider connect fibers from the country of origin into Zambia.
