Vehicle stock taking to benefit motorist-RTSA Chief

The Road Transport Safety Agency RTSA says the motor vehicle registration exercise is aimed at having an electronic detection of any abrogating of various road rules.
Addressing the media in Lusaka RTSA Chief Executive Officer, Zindaba Soko says according to the road traffic act number 11 of 2002 RTSA is supposed to carry out a motor vehicle re-registration exercise every ten years.
Mr Soko laments that since the country’s independence the Agency has never conducted the exercise.
He adds that the exercise also aims at ascertaining the population of vehicles in the country.
‘’The current motor vehicle population stands at about 765 thousand motor vehicles in the country, adding that it’s not a true reflection of the number of vehicles in the country’’ He said.
Mr Soko adds that exercise will enable the Agency to know the exact population of vehicles in the country, as well as the real owners of the vehicles.
Mr Soko further says the re-registration of motor vehicles in the country will also address various vices being championed by some scrupulous motorist such as tax avoidance and number plate cloning among others.
