WARMA Collects 12, 754,622. 12 in water charges.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry for Water Development, Sanitation and Environment Protection says Water Resources Management Authority (WARMA) collected about 12, 754,622. 12 kwacha in water charges in 2017.
Speaking at the Launch of the WARMA annual report and strategic plan 2017-2022 in Lusaka Bishop Edward Chomba says the water charges collected in 2017 have exceeded the target for the year under review by about 3, 854,122.12 kwacha translating in 30% revenue collection.
Bishop Chomba has since commended the authority for the development, but has however directed WARMA management to ensure accountability for the resources.
Bishop Chomba has however challenged WARMA Management to translate messages about its operations and mandate in local languages to enable the general public understand its procedures.
The Bishop has observed that the failure by the general public to understand WARMA’s mandate is as a result of the information gap which borders on the use of English in all its communication strategies.
Bishop Chomba has since called on the general public to support WARMA adding that the country’s water sector needs protection and sustainability.
And speaking at the same event WARMA Acting Director General Lemmy Namayanga says despite many challenges faced in water resource management sector in the country, the authority is determined to ensure that the economic giving resource is well managed.
He says the authority will also ensure that water is equitably allocated, preserved and sustainably developed.
