The Workers Compensation Fund Control Board says it is set to launch the Vision Zero Campaign to address issues of occupation diseases and accidents.
Our Copperbelt Staffer Alick Nyankata reports that Vision Zero is a transformational approach to accident and disease prevention that integrates the three dimensions of safety, health and well-being at all levels of work.
It is premised on the understanding that all accidents and diseases at workplaces are preventable.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Fund Head-Corporate Affairs & Customer Service Maybin Nkholomba says the fund has so far registered 167 partner organizations in Zambia to champion the Vision Zero Campaign.
Mr. Nkholomba says last year alone, Zambia recorded about 1,027 accidents at work places saying this is not sustainable for a growing economy like Zambia’s.
“Vision Zero Campaign, supported by set of rules if well implemented can reduce the rates of accidents and diseases at work places. It is aimed at reducing the cases of diseases and accidents at work places,” he said.
Mr. Nkholomba says over 500 delegates have been invited for the official launch in Zambia and will be graced by Labour and Social Security Minister Joyce Nonde and her Health counterpart Dr. Chitalu Chilufya.
“Initially, the official launch in Livingstone was supposed to be done by His Excellency Edgar Lungu but that due to his busy schedule, he has delegated this honor to Hon. Nonde and Hon Chilufya,” said Mr. Nkholomba.
He says the fund has also settled for Dr. Kachinga Sichizya, a renowned Neurosurgeon at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) as their Ambassador.
The Zambian Launch of the Vision Zero Campaign will be held at Avani Hotel, Livingstone, Zambia on the 14th of December 2018, starting at 09:00hrs.
