The Ministry of Water Development Sanitation and Environmental Development says 19, 000 boreholes have been registered in Lusaka province since the commencement of the exercise.
Speaking at the borehole water verification exercise flag off in Lusaka, Ministry Permanent Secretary, Edward Chomba said the Water Resources Management Authority has also registered about100 borehole drilling companies in the province.
Bishop Chomba said 3,000 boreholes are targeted under the water verification exercise in the province.
“The exercise is aimed at ensuring that boreholes in the province met the required standards so that people in the province have accesses to safe and clean drinking water” he said
The Permanent Secretary said WARMA has recruited 100 interns to help carry out the verification exercise in the Province.
“The 100 interns that have been recruited to carry out the verification exercise will be wearing Water Resources Management Authority reflective vests and have Identification cards with them, allow them to come to your premises,” he said.
Bishop Chomba has since encouraged boreholes owners to register their boreholes as well as to grants access to the people that have been mandated to carry out the exercise.
He adds that his Ministry is intensifying the programme which will be rolled out to other parts of the country.
