President Hakainde Hichilema has called on China to continue working with Zambia in ensuring that infrastructure projects are procured at the right price, of high quality and delivered on time.

Speaking during the Commissioning Ceremony of the Kenneth Kaunda Wing of the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka, President Hichilema noted this should be the ordinary way of working for those in the Civil Service, stating that the projects is an example of the new working culture.

The Head of State further reminded Zambians that “We in this county like the Chinese believes in value for money in the infrastructure that we deliver.”

President Hichilema indicated the value should not only be held at Central government levels, but local government level too.

He also noted Constituency Development Fund must deliver projects commensurate with the needs of the people at the right price, of quality and on a timely basis.

“I think for us in the Public Sector, in the civil service, Minister of Infrastructure this should be the way of working this should be the norm this should be the ordinary way of working and not in cases or times when projects are too expensive, poor quality and delivered late,” The Head of state said.

President Hichilema also emphasized that quasi-government Intuitions, parastatals and various authorities that sometimes think they are outside the public sector scrutiny must be reached out to by Minister of infrastructure as they are part of the public sector.

He told them that they are required to stay within the limits of prudence and not going out to spend money lavishly to buy expensive vehicles.

“You are founded by the people of Zambia created by the people of Zambia and you cannot go out to spend Money lavishly to buy expensive vehicles, no no you are required to stay within the limits of prudence,” he warned.

“I deliberately used this occasion to send this message because am watching am looking and am observing very carefully,” said President Hichilema.

He had since directed secretary to the cabinet to arrange a meeting with quasi government institutions, Parastatals, regulatory authorities and councils.

And speaking earlier, Ambassador of the Peoples Republic of China to Zambia DU XIAHUI stated that China remains committed to provide technical and economic assistance to African countries including Zambia with no political strings attached.

He disclosed that as at 2021 bilateral trade volume between the two countries had achieved remarkable growth of 23% against the global economy downturn which created more than 50,000 Job opportunities in Zambia.
