ZACA urges local farm suppliers to be consistent

• Local farmers supplying fresh produce to chain stores in the country to be consistent.
• 90 percent of fresh products in various supermarkets are supplied by local farmers.
• Supermarkets to continue supporting local farmers by buying their products.

Zambia Consumer Association (ZACA) has encouraged local farmers supplying fresh produce to chain stores in the country to be consistent with the supplies in order for them to keep earning a stable income.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Association Executive Secretary Juba Sakala descried it as a positive development that 90 percent of fresh products in various chain stores and supermarkets are being supplied by local farmers.
“It is good that the local farmers are supplying fresh produce to supermarkets across the country;” he said.
Mr Sakala has urged the supermarkets to continue supporting local farmers by buying their products.
“If supermarkets continue to buy local products, farmers are encouraged to produce more because of the nearby market,” Mr. Sakala said.
He has further advised more Zambians to join the Agriculture sector in an effort to increase the supply of fresh products on the market as well as ensuring food security for the country.
“Farmers should grow more vegetables because they are fast cash crops unlike maize which make them very marketable,” he said.
