ZACCI tips govt on Zambia Airways

The Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZACCI) has cautioned government that the airline business is not a lucrative one.
ZACCI President Michael Nyirenda says in as much as the relaunching of the Zambia Airways will come with positives on Zambia’s economy, it may also have some negatives.
Mr. Nyirenda says the chamber hopes that the Zambian government has leant lessons from the past when the national airline was closed.
Mr. Nyirenda is also advising the government not to interfere in the running of the company as this may have an impact on its operations.
He further hopes that the partnership with Ethiopian Airways may help the company to succeed due to its experience in the aviation industry.
“You see it has both advantages and disadvantages. The advantages are that it will help Zambia boost the tourism sector, increase trade with other countries, create jobs and introduce direct flights into the country,” he said.
