Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZACCI) has strongly appealed to business houses as well as manufacturing industries and other factory operational plants to comply with the Covid-19 health guidelines.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Chamber President Dr. Jerome Kawesha said the resurgence of the pandemic is not something that should be open to question because the new Covid-19 strain is 50 to 70 percent more transmissible.
Dr. Kawesha has also called on all employers and businesses countrywide to ensure their respective workforce mask-up and the necessary hand cleaning and sanitizing products are always available in the workplaces.
“This virus is now rampant in major towns as observed from the daily reports issued by the Ministry of Health, 400-plus known new COVID-19 cases per day is not a matter the business community should ignore,” Dr Kawesha said.
“It’s not something that should be open to question. We hear that the new Covid-19 strain is 50-70% more transmissible.”
He also advised property managers of Shopping Malls and to get involved in the Covid-19 fight by ensuring that entry into malls is on condition of patrons complying with preventive guidelines.
He noted that the pandemic is and will get worse if business entities and consumers do not comply with the provided healthcare guidelines.
“Property managers of Shopping Malls and shop owners are equally advised to get involved and ensure entry into malls or shops is on condition of patrons complying with Covid-19 prevention guidelines because this pandemic is likely to worsen if we all don’t comply with the provided healthcare guidelines,” he explained.
Dr Kawesha further said as observed from the daily reports issued by the Ministry of Health the virus is now rampant in major towns and 400-plus known new Covid-19 cases reported as of yesterday is not a matter the business community should ignore.
“As Captains of industry, we also call upon the local municipal and district councils nationwide to stand up and demonstrate leadership in the fight against COVID-19 and Cholera, Malaria and other diseases,” he said.
