ZACL clarifies over ‘passenger fees’

The Zambia Airports Corporation Limited (ZACL) says operational costs of running the airports and investment required is the principal premise that underpins the passenger fees that it is now implementing.
Last year through a Statutory Instrument, Zambia Airports Corporation Limited was mandated to take over seven provincial and three strategic aerodromes.
ZACL Communications and Brand Manager Mweembe Sikaulu has told Money FM News that the Corporation is responding to government’s directive to take over operations of these airports.
Ms Sikaulu says these airports need to be brought to a particular standard.
“The operational costs of running these airports and investment required is the principal premise that underpins the passenger fees that we are now implementing. We are required to do a lot of upgrade works at these airports including maintenance and the deployment of security measures and equipment accordingly,” she said.
She said all of this is intended to elevate the standards to that befitting of the travelling public.
“Our concern as always is ensuring that passengers have a clean and safe environment to travel through and the economies of scale support the levy which is in the interest of those who shall be using the facilities,” she added.
