President Edgar Lungu has called on border authorities from both Zambia and Tanzania to ensure that small scale cross border traders are accommodated, and assisted to conduct trade in a formalized manner as they implement the one stop border.
Speaking when he officiated at the launch of the Nakonde-Tunduma one stop border post facility in Tanzania today with his Tanzania counterpart Dr. John Magufuli, President Lungu says the implementation of the simplified trade regime will ensure that no one is left behind, even as border authorities apply smarter clearing procedures under the one stop border at Nakonde-Tunduma Border Post.
The Head of States explains that the two governments did not only take into account trade facilitation for large scale commercial users, but also small scale cross border traders through the simplified trade regime which was signed in January 2017.
Construction of the one stop border will cost the government of Tanzania 40 billion Tanzanian shillings, Zambia completed construction its one stop border post in Nakonde in 2015.
