The Ministry of Health says Trade between Zambia and Democratic Republic of Congo has not been affected following the outbreak of Ebola in the neighboring country.

Zambia is concerned over the perpetuating Ebola outbreak that has since spread to other parts of the provinces in the Democratic Republic of Congo including Mangina Health area in Mabalako Health Zone.

However some traders fear that this outbreak in neighboring DRC may spread to Zambia due to trade between the two countries.

But Ministry of Health Spokesperson Dr. Maximilian Bweupe says trade between the two countries is not affected because Zambia is guided by the international Health regulation.

He says the regulation dictate that as witness of a country people are not supposed to be enclosed or limit their movement due to Ebola outbreak.

He adds that the regulations also dictates that trade between the two countries is not supposed to be restricted.

On 1 August 2018, the Ministry of Health of the Democratic Republic of the Congo declared a new outbreak of Ebola virus disease in North Kivu Province.

The Ministry of Health, WHO and partners are responding to this event, and working to establish the full extent of this outbreak.

And Dr. Bweupe has also refuted claims that there is an outbreak of Cholera in Lusaka.

He says if cholera has broken out in the district his office could have been the first ones to know about the outbreak.
