The Zambia Public Procurement Authority (ZPPA) processed 409 tenders in 2018 through the electronic government procurement system.
ZPPA Head of Public Relations and Communications John Chipandwe tells Money FM News that the 409 tenders were approximately worth K1, 265, 713.31.
Mr. Chipandwe says the authority in the ending year 2018 registered a total number of 23, 074 suppliers on the electronic government procurement system (E-GP system).
Mr. Chipandwe has urged suppliers that have not yet registered with the authority on the E-GP system do so before the system is rolled out to all public institutions.
“In readiness for the full rollout of the system this year, the authority is calling on all public institutions in Zambia to register on the E-GP system with immediate effect. Heads of procurement in conjunction with ICT department/units in various public institutions are therefore urged to take the lead and coordinate this activity. This is a requirement for all public institutions and must be adhered to as soon as possible,” he said.
He reminded public institutions that have not yet submitted their annual procurement to do so as it is an offense to operate without a procurement plan.
“The public is reminded that the introduction of the E-GP system was aimed at addressing some of the challenges being faced in the manual way of conducting public procurement and minimize lengthy procurement procedures; practices and challenges in contract management just to mention but a few. The authority is confident that the introduction of the E-GP system will address most of the challenges,” he said.
