ZRA Amnesty receives overwhelming response

• The Amnesty has been doing fine.
• A number of people are coming forward to ensure that they regularize their vehicles.
• All those that may have abused their certain tax exemptions have to take advantage of the amnesty.

Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) says car owners are responding positively to the Amnesty given by the Authority to ensure they regularize their vehicles before the deadline of 26th May, 2021.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Authority Corporate Communications Manager Topsy Sikalinda tells Money FM News in an interview that there has been a high number of people trying to have their vehicles cleared as the deadline approaches.
Mr. Sikalinda stated that ZRA will collaborate with the Zambia Police, Interpol and Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) to help those with smuggled cars clear their vehicles before the grace period elapse, because after 26th May, interceptions will commence and seized vehicles will be forfeited to the state.
“Generally the Amnesty has been doing fine, we have seen a number of people coming forward to ensure that they regularize their vehicles and what we are saying is that we have few more days for people to ensure they do the right thing.”
“We have also those that had vehicles that were out rightly smuggled and like we said earlier on that we will work jointly with other security wings like the Zambia Police, Interpol and RTSA to ensure that we facilitate and help them clear their vehicles before the 26 of May, after the deadline we will move in to start the interceptions and once the interceptions are done, we will ensure that vehicle is seized, forfeited to the state and also we will go ahead to prosecute the owners,” Mr. Sikalinda said.
He urged all car owners who may have abused their certain tax exemptions to take advantage of the amnesty and see to it that the correct taxes are paid.
In March this year, Zambia Revenue Authority gave those whose vehicles have not been cleared up to 26th May in order to regularize matters, and further waived penalties and interests on all vehicles that have entered the country illegally as a form of an incentive until the grace period elapses.
