ZRA launches ‘clearing agent framework’

Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) says modernization of the customers clearing agents’ framework will assist agents in the country to improve their skills and modern customs operations.
Speaking at the launch of the customers clearing agents’ framework, ZRA Commissioner General Kingsley Chanda says the reforms will greatly contribute to improving trade facilitation and reduce costs of conduction cross border trade in the country.
Mr. Chanda says the reforms will help build capacity among clearing agents which will result in service levels raising to international standards.
He says the country has over eight hundred registered customs clearing agents’ companies.
He says the high number of customs clearing companies in the country has contributed to low levels of professionalism and low returns for the majority of the companies.
Mr. Chanda says this has resulted in stakeholders being critical about the service they receive from the customs industry.
He has since urged personnel in the industry to also enhance their skills to modernize their operations.
Mr. Chanda adds that current globe trends in trade require grater professionalism, transparency, and efficiency.
