ZTAF, ZLAF partners to penetrate international market

Two Zambian Companies have partnered in order to help and facilitate for Zambian products in timber and livestock to penetrate the international Market.

This follows the alleged exploitation and other challenges that local producers face when selling their products to international buyers.

The Zambian Timber Auction Floor (ZTAF) has partnered with Zambia Livestock Auction Floor (ZLAF) to provide a platform that connects various producers to the international market.

ZTAF Managing Director Charles Masange says most Zambian producers receive less than they should for their products as they are fifth parties in the production chain due to the increased number of middle men.

Mr. Masange cites soya beans which he says local farmers sale it at about $US2 per kg but costs about US$8 per kg in China.

Mr. Masange has also cited policy inconsistencies by the government as one of the factors that hinder progress when it comes to timber production.

Mr. Masange says the market is available and that his organization will provide inputs for the farmers to meet the international demand which he says is high. He has emphasized that government cannot do everything alone, but by an innovative private sector.
