ZYAFAC praise ACC

The Zambia Youths in the fight against Corruption (ZYAFAC) has joined stakeholders in praising the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC’s) decision to arrest a sitting cabinet minister for corruption.
The Anti-Corruption Commission on Tuesday arrested Infrastructure and Housing Minister Ronald Chitotela.
Mr. Chitotela, 47, was arrested and charged with two counts of concealing property suspected of being proceeds of crime.
But ZYAFAC Executive Director Maurice Malambo tells Money FM News that the arresting of Mr. Chitotela also sends a signal that President Edgar Lungu does not protect anyone found wanting.
Mr. Malambo also says this should inspire confidence in Zambia’s law enforcement agencies and investigative wings.
He says the Head of State has proved that he will not protect anyone who is found wanting as he exhibited when his Political Advisor Kaizer Zulu was arrested and never intervened in the matter.
“President Lungu is on record saying no one will be protected when summoned by Law Enforcement Agencies to answer to various allegations. I think on this one, the Head of State is on course to allow the law enforcement agencies to do their work without interference from his office,” said Mr. Malambo.
The ZYAFAC Executive Director has also advised the Pambashe Member of Parliament to continue cooperating with ACC as they continue to investigate the allegations.
“You may wish to recall that even when he was arrested somewhere in 2013, he cooperated well with law enforcement agencies, he was taken to court and eventually acquitted of all charges. We wish to encourage him to remain calm and continue cooperating with authorities,” he said.
Mr. Malambo has since encouraged the government to continue on this path of not tolerating corruption due to its impact on the economy.
