20% Equalisation Fund was used for Capital Projects – Councilor

A ward councilor in Northern Province has challenged a law maker and civic leaders in Kasama district to verify the use of a controversial twenty percent of the Equalisation Fund with the Ministry of Local Government.
This comes following reports that the Mulilansolo Ward Cuncillor Aaron Zimba had misapplied the 20% equalisation funds which were by meant for capital projects.
Mr. Zimba explains that among the capital projects the funds have been spent on include a seven hundred thousand Kwacha on the construction of TAZARA market Shelter and Chikumanino bus station ablution block.
Others include the completion of the new civic center in Kasama, procurement of a 25 tonne tipper truck and backhoe loader which is still awaiting delivery and 5 utility vehicles for the Council.
He further adds that other projects are the construction of Chikumanino Bus station ablution block, the construction of TAZARA Market shelter which cost K700,000 was spent, the rehabilitation of Kapongolo Motel , the installation of 50 street lights , the rehabilitation of Chambeshi Market Ablution block and Chikumanino old ablution block and the drilling of four (4) boreholes
