CBU indefinitely closed

The Ministry of Higher Education has announced the indefinite closure of Copperbelt University (CBU).
Higer Education Minister Professor Nkandu Luo has also announced that her ministry has banned unions at CBU with immediate effect.
Professor Luo has directed that all students should leave campus before 18hrs today.
She says the Michael Chilufya Sata Medical School in Ndola will not be affected together with international courses.
“It is not my desire to close any university in the country, but I have been pushed to against the hall. At this moment, I will not even talk about when the institution will be reopened,” she said.
Prof. Luo said her ministry will work closely with the Copperbelt University to ensure that security is tightened by way of installing CCTV at the institution.
She said in the past, union leaders used to remain at the institution when it is closed but that since she has banned unions at CBU, no one is allowed to remain at the campus.
The Higher Education Minister has described the students who took part in the riot this week as ‘hooligans’.
She observed that it does not make sense for the students to destroy infrastructure each time they are aggrieved, saying government will not tolerate such kind of behaviour.
