Govt tipped on growing economy

The Public Policy Institute of Zambia (PPIZ) says there is need for the government to come up with policies that will not ‘coerce’ the country’s economy.
PPIZ President Fabian Chewe has told Money FM News that government needs to discourage things that may result in high cost of production in Zambia.
Mr. Chewe notes that the proposed increment of electricity tariffs by Zesco to the Energy Regulation Board is one such issue that may result in high cost of production.
He said already the business community is paying huge sums in taxes, levies and other bills such as toll fees saying increasing the cost of production may affect their businesses.
He said the economy is biting and hence the need to ensure that the business community operates in a favorable environment and make profits.
