The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has seized goods collectively worth K2,538 from 16 trading places in Kaoma District.
CCPC Public Relations Officer Namukolo Kasumpa says the seized items did not meet the mandatory product information standards according to the laws of Zambia.
Ms. Kasumpa says the items include soft drinks, biscuits, juices washing soap and bathing soaps, and various cosmetics.
She says other products were Lactogen formula and Cerelac, products mainly consumed by children and expired Yess drinks which the traders alleged to have been procured a week earlier.
The CCPC Public Relations Officer says the goods were sized during a sensitization and advocacy tour of the province with the local council, aimed at educating the consumers on their rights and obligations.
And CCPC Provincial Investigator, Western Province, Bravo Muchuu expressed worry on the continued supply of expired and unsafe food products to consumers on the market and urged traders to ensure that they purchased products with a longer shelf life in order not to endanger the health of consumers as well as avoid being prosecuted through the Courts of Law.
