Bank of Zambia Deputy Governor for administration Dr. Tukiya Kankasa has disclosed that challenges of Gender Equity and gender Discrimination Short circuit any well intended plans to empower women.
Dr. Kankasa says there is need for equal empowerment of both men and women in order to achieve a prosperous Global Economy.
She has expressed happiness that the number of Global Corporate entities run by women is increasing.
She has noted the rise in awareness levels on the importance of women empowerment further applauding the BOZ and other organizations for taking a lead by Ensuring Gender sensitivity in empowerment programs.
She was speaking at the 2018 Kupes young women’s Network Conference in Lusaka today.
Kupes young women’s Network Founder Norena Chiteba has disclosed that the network has grown from a membership of 9 in 2015 to a membership of over 750 members in 3 years.
This year’s conference is the 3rd one in 3 years with a number of programs in place to teach young women various ways they can develop themselves economically, and stay healthy.
Barclays Bank Managing Director Mizinga Melu and Zambian Brands have each pledged K2000 each towards 2 project with an outstanding proposal.
Jacaranda Hub founder, Mara Michelo has offered 30 scholarships to the network valued at about $7.100.
Pastor Choolwe M Choolwe has also pledged to train 70 of the young ladies under the John Maxwell Gold program at a cost of about $500 US per participant.
These are among the emerging organisations that are making a difference for Zambians by empowering the youth with skills and knowledge on entrepreneurship and careers.
These interventions are expected to increase the number of youths in employment as well as increase the number of youths who can create employment for others through innovations and skills development.
