MCA and Local Government to create independent solid waste management company

The Millennium Challenge account in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government are creating a solid waste management company initially estimated at 3.5 Million US dollars.

The independent company, still in the process of being created, will take the responsibility of Solid waste management from the Lusaka city council.

MCA Corporate communications manager John Kunda says the mentioned amount will finance the conducting of an assessment as well as proposals for how solid waste management can be conducted.

Mr. Kunda says the funds will also be used to build capacity of the City council.

He has noted that more funds will continue to be pumped into the project.

He was speaking in a phone interview with money FM news.

There have been complaints over the reported failure by the LCC to handle solid waste.

This move is therefore expected to improve the challenges faced by the city when it comes to solid waste which include garbage collection among others.
