Construction of Simon Mwelwa Market advances

The Ministry of Local Government says construction of the Simon Mwelwa Market in Lusaka has reached advanced stage.
Local Government Minister Vincent Mwale tells Money FM News in an interview that completion of the facility will take about three months due to sub-contractors working on various things at the building have gone on industrial break.
He says the market is being constructed at a total cost of about K70 million and is being funded by the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU).
Mr. Mwale says once the facility is completed, traders operating from the gutted City Market will be allocated trading place in the new building.
He says this will pave way for the renovation and rehabilitation of the gutted city market.
On July 4th, 2017 fire swept through Lusaka’s City Market destroying property worth millions of Kwacha leaving a number of traders stranded.
