Dodia urges Africa to take advantage of US, China trade war

Economist Yusuf Dodia says the trade war between the US and China provides an opportunity for Africa to start exporting to the Western world.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Yusuf Dodia says the trade war will create opportunities that Africa especially Zambia can benefit from.
Mr. Dodia says Zambia should hence reposition the economy and benefit from the trade war.
Meanwhile, a local Media and Entertainment Entrepreneur says entrepreneurs need to be consistent and Customer Centric in order for their businesses to withstand anticipated Global Economic Slowdown this year.
Itsretunes Founder Steven Mwale says business owners need to focus on creating loyalty for consumers of their products and services.
He says in an interview that the projected challenges will affect people’s spending habits, which may have a bearing on some businesses.
Mr. Mwale has advised entrepreneurs to create business survival plans while they wait for opportunities when the local economic status improves.
According to Reuters News Agency, the European Central Bank ECB sees global economic slowdown in 2019.
They say Investors have been bracing for a worldwide slowdown in economic growth, mainly driven by higher borrowing costs for dollar debtors and trade tensions between the United States and China.
Stakeholders have also expressed fears that the change in the local tax regime for 2019 that was announces by Finance Minister Margaret Mwanakatwe last year will add to the economic difficulties if not carefully implemented.
Government announces in its 2019 Budget on 28 September a withdrawal of its Value Added Tax.
Plans in the 2019 Budget include removing the 16% VAT, first introduced in 1995. It will be superseded with a Sales Tax, only chargeable to the consumer at the end of the supply chain.
