CSO-SUN advocates for crop diversification

The Civil Society Organization Scaling Up Nutrition (CSO-SUN) Alliance says it is impressed with the progress made by government in promoting crop diversification.
The Alliance has also urged the Ministry of Agriculture to embrace the call by a Special Committee of Permanent Secretaries on nutrition to make the Farmers Input Support Programme (FISP) to respond to the nutrition needs of the country.
CSO-SUN Alliance Country Director Matthews Mhuru has told Money FM News that the current change in weather patterns should make Zambians to embrace crop diversification.
Mr. Mhuru said the dry spells are not favorable to growing of maize and hence the need to plant seeds that will respond to this kind of weather patterns.
He said it is motivating that the government is promoting the food based dietary guidelines which is providing recommendations on what kind of food to consume.
Mr. Mhuru has since urged the government not to relent but continue promoting crop diversification in view of the changes in weather patterns.
