CTPD urges Africa to reduce cost of doing business

The Center for Trade Policy and Development says there is need for African countries to simplify the cost of doing business in the region.
CTPD Executive Director Isaac Mwaipopo says this can be simplified by way of ratifying the Africa Continental Free Trade Area agreement.
Mr. Mwaipopo says Africans should be doing business in a less restrictive environment.
He has told Money FM News that there are a number of barriers that hinder trade within the region such as tariffs.
He said the initiative provide opportunities for countries to do business that is less restrictive.
“It has been very difficult for countries to move goods and services beyond borders due to the barriers that have existed,” he said.
Mr. Mwaipopo stated that the Zambian government should therefore ensure that they provide a conducive environment for the private sector in the country so that they compete competitively with other private sectors within the region when the AfCTA is being implemented.
