The Diary Association of Zambia (DAZ) says it will continue lobbying for improved infrastructure in the diary sector to reduce on wastage of milk.
In Zambia, about 381 million litres of fresh milk produced in the country per year, either goes to waste or is sold informally.
DAZ Executive Manager Jeremiah Kasalo has told Money FM News that the association is also sensitizing the farmers on how best they can reduce on milk wastage.
Mr. Kasalo said the association has engaged the Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS), the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry and the University of Zambia to train farmers on this matter.
He said his association is further engaging the processors in setting up milk collection centers across the country.
“We are also in discussion with Musika in coming up with a school milk program. This is a unique program which will allow parents to buy milk in kind or cash as we are trying to promote consumption of nutritious products,” he said.
