LCC to ban use of plastic

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has observed that a dirty environment drops the economic performance of a nation.

City Mayor Myles Sampa says the diseases that come with a dirty environment causes people to be unproductive as they cannot do any work.

Mr. Sampa also says it cannot attract tourists or investors as the outside world loses confidence in a nation that is not clean.

Mr. Sampa has cited an example of Kigali in Rwanda which he says has benefited greatly as a result of being clean.

Mr. Sampa said this in an interview with Money FM as he took part in the exercise of cleaning the city of Lusaka as part of the world Clean Up day.

Meanwhile the mayor has disclosed that the council will in a few months work on a law to ban one off use of plastic bags.

He says re-usable shopping bags are more convenient and friendly to the environment.
