Farmer calls upon government to bring FRA depots closer

A Kabwe based farmer has called on government to consider bringing Food Reserve Agency (FRA) Depots closer to the farmers in rural areas considering the long distance they cover to reach them.

Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Nickolas Kapila explained that most FRA depots are positioned far from settlement areas which makes it difficult for farmers in rural areas to transport their maize to depot sale points.
“We move long distances just to get to sales depots which is very hard for us because most of us stay in rural areas,” he said.
Mr. Kapila added that if depot sale points are brought nearer to the farmers it will be easier for them to move their produce and not sale to briefcase buyers.
“We are appealing to government to bring depots closer to us so that we are not forced to sell our maize to briefcase buyers, because they come to us,” Mr. Kapila said.
