Governance Activist David Kapoma has called on President Edgar Lungu to consider organizing a National Economic Indaba to strategize on how the country can grow its economy as well as settling its debt.

Mr. Kapoma has told Money FM News that the Head of State should consider directing the Ministry of Finance and other line ministries to host a national economic indaba where various stakeholders can give their recommendations on debt management and economic growth.

He says the government should reach out to institutions such as the World Bank, International Monetary Fund (IMF), Economists, Researchers and other think tanks in the field of economics.

Mr. Kapoma says the proposed national economic indaba should bring the decision makers in the private sector and the decision makers in Government and agree on certain parameters that would help grow Zambia’s economy.

He says this would also present an opportunity for the country to strategize on how Zambia can fully benefit from its natural resources such as minerals, timber and other resources.

He says it is undeniable fact that the country’s economy may suffer shocks following Zambia’s huge debt which he feels needs urgent attention.
