The Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure Development says it has exceeded its K845 million 2018 toll fees collection target by collecting over K900 million.
The Ministry also says it is targeting to collect over K1 billion from toll gates in 2019.
Housing and Infrastructure Development Minister Ronald Chitotela says over ten toll plazas were constructed in 2018 and about seven are targeted to be built this year.
Mr. Chitotela says the toll gates are an important venture as they create enough funds to be invested in infrastructure development around the country.
He says trade and tourism need proper infrastructure to grow and contribute more to economic development.
The Minister adds that it is also investing more in software networks and systems to monitor toll gate activities in order to enhance transparency and accountability.
Meanwhile, a forum for Emerging Manufacturers, the Zambia Emerging Manufacturers Forum says the toll gate fees have negatively impacted on the revenues of Small Scale Businesses.
Forum Founder Agatha Nayame says businesses transport Goods every day and that not enough sensitization was done to educate the businesses on the matter.
The Ministry said last year that K667, 658, 000 was raised from toll fees alone in 2017 which was 98 percent achievement against a projected annual budget of K682 Million.
This brought the total collections of toll fees collected since the project starts in 2013 to K1, 901, 866, 000.
