Govt prioritizes recruitment of health workers – PS

•       Government between 2017 to date has recruited 24, 480 health workers which included doctors.

•       Ministry of Health pledges to continue with its open door policy.

Government says it is committed to ensuring that inadequate human resource for health in various health facilities is addressed.

Speaking during a meeting with representatives of the 400 Doctors who are seeking to be employed by government, Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for Technical Services Dr. Kennedy Malama updated the team that the ministry has received treasury Authority to recruit 395 health workers which includes doctors.

Dr. Malama however said it is not possible to employ all the 400 doctors at once, as the recruitment exercise is done in phases depending on the availability of funds.

He urged the doctors to remain patient stating that the recruitment of health workers is government’s priority and will continue receiving attention, adding that this is why government has recruited 24, 480 health workers between 2017 to date, which included doctors.

Dr. Malama said government will continue with its open door policy of engaging health workers using various channels like engaging professional bodies.

“Doctors are urged to be patient as the matter of recruitment of health workers is government’s priority and will continue receiving attention. That is why government between 2017 to date has recruited 24, 480 health workers which included doctors and government will continue to build on this,” Dr. Malama stated.
