Health Minister Dr. Chitalu Chilufya has urged the World Health Organizations (WHO) country offices in various countries to work with ministries of health in the African Region to strengthen health security because health is a social and economic imperative.
Dr. Chilufya says Health Security if not enhanced can reverse economic gains various countries have posted.
He has also called on WHO to encourage African countries to devise mechanisms that will strengthen domestic financing.
Zambia has passed into law the National Health Insurance scheme for that purpose.
Dr. Chilufya has lauded the World Health Organization for contributing to Zambia’s Health transformation agenda further pledging to ensure attainment of Universal Health Coverage.
Dr. Chilufya has pledged continued collaboration with WHO in a bid to attain Universal Health Coverage and strengthened health systems.
The minister was commenting on the WHO’S work on resource mobilisation through strengthening partnerships to better support Member States at the ongoing 68th WHO Regional Committee Meeting.
