The Petroleum Transporters Association of Zambia (PTAZ) says Zambian fuel transporters are self-assured of making about US$5 million from transporting cheaper fuel from Tanzania into Zambia acquired by government from Saudi Arabia.
The first consignment of imported refined fuel stocks procured by government independently and directly from Saudi Arabia arrived at Dar Es Salaam Port early this month awaiting decantation.
TAZAMA pipelines Regional Manager for Tanzania Abraham Saunyama disclosed that the ship from Saudi Arabia will soon start decanting the diesel and petrol stocks at the Single Point Moring once docking fees and other formalities have been processed by the Tanzania Port Authorities.
But PTAZ Secretary General Benson Tembo says the first bunch of over one hundred tankers have arrived in the country from Tanzania whiles hundreds more are still in that country waiting to be loaded with fuel.
“The association and the Zambia Union of Tanker Drivers (ZUTD) are working together to ensure that deliveries are on time”, he told Money FM News in an interview.
He says the two bodies will not let government down over their pledge to ferry the commodity into the country within the required period.
Mr. Tembo states that the unity by Zambian fuel transporters is unprecedented and must be commended by all well-meaning Zambians.
He adds that government has shown commitment in ensuring genuine growth by ensuring genuine growth by giving Zambian transporters to take lead in transporting fuel from Saudi Arabia.
The PTAZ Secretary General says the total value of transportation has an additional of US$5 million which will be paid through Zambian banks.
