The combined team of Lusaka City Council (LCC) Police, Public Health Inspectors and State Police last night apprehended 17 suspected underage people for underage beer drinking and patronising of drinking places.
And two women were apprehended for being found in a bar with babies on their backs.
In a statement made available to Money FM News LCC Public Relations Manager George Sichimba says the operation was conducted last night from 19:00 hours in Kabwata Constituency, and was meant to randomly check on underage drinking and patronage of drinking places.
The suspected underage patrons have since been taken to Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe Police Station.
Mr Sichimba says Police would screen the suspects and those found wanting would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
He says the action by the two women was a public health concern to the babies as babies are more susceptible to contracting diseases that may come as a result of large gatherings.
Mr Sichimba says noise in the bars may also be way too much for the good health of babies.
He says the law does not allowed adults both male and female to be accompanied to a drinking place by young people below the age of 18 year regardless of what one is doing in that place.
He says bar owners where suspects were apprehended from would also face the law for flouting the regulations of their liquor licences.
The municipality has since warned young people not to be indulging themselves in illicit activities such as underage drinking of beer as they risk being apprehended and face the law for their actions.
Mr Sichimba says the combined team would continue with random operations throughout the city.
