PAZ weighs in performance of poultry industry in Q1

The Poultry Association of Zambia (PAZ) says the poultry industry has seen a stable supply of day-old chicks in the first quarter of 2019.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, PAZ Executive Manager Dominic Chanda said the industry has seen an increase in the drowning of hatcheries due to a number of farmers pulling out of the business.
Mr. Chanda said the industry had seen an increase in the price of stock feed due to maize and soya beans prices going up.
He said the deprecation of the kwacha also had a negative impact on the poultry industry.
Mr. Chanda said the industry did not see an increase in the export of chickens but that it observed a minor increase in the prices of eggs.
He added that the industry is expected to experience high prices of stock feeds in the second quarter in the prices of maize go up.
He commended government for effecting the ban in the export of mealie meal and maize.
