Police in Ndola over the weekend apprehended two individuals and impounded two vans laden with the stone base materials believed to have been stolen from the newly constructed roads.
And the Ndola City Council (NCC) has appealed to the residents of Ndola to desist from stealing the stone base from the newly constructed roads.
Stone base is the foundation of the road and is a mixture of gravel and cement.
NCC Public Relations Manager Tilyenji Mwanza says the council has noted with sadness that this is tantamount to sabotage of a government project on which colossal sums of money have been spent.
Ms Mwanza says many residents are stealing the stone base and applying it in their yards to make pavements.
She however notes that the removal or stealing of the road stone base weakens the newly constructed roads and reduces the life span of the roads hence it is an earnest appeal by the Local Authority to the residents of Ndola to desist from the vice.
