Police in Mkushi have arrested a 34 year old man behind the torching of a house that left seven people of the same family dead on Saturday.
Police Deputy Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga tells Money FM News that Obert Bubala was arrested yesterday and charged for One count of Arson and Seven counts of murder which took place in Mkushi.
Mr. Hamoonga says the alleged suspect of Mwitwa village forest area in Mkushi confessed to burning the house.
He says the suspect was transferred from Mkushi to Kapiri-Mposhi police station for his safety as the mob wanted to do beat him up in Mkushi.
“We reiterate our call to warn members of the public not to take the law into their own hands but rather let the due process of the law take its course”, the Police Deputy Spokesperson has warned.
He says the suspect will appear in court soon.
And according to Central Province Police Commissioner Joel Njase, the suspect disclosed that he spent four nights plotting how to execute his vengeful mission to burn his ex-wife and the children at a named lodge.
Mr. Njase also said the suspect whose dowry was returned because of his abusive nature further revealed that he carried out his horrendous act because he was spending a lot of money on his former wife in maintenance costs.
