Private Sector asked to support agric sector

Small Scale Farmers Development Agency has called on the private sector to also play a pivotal role in helping to grow the agriculture sector.
SAFADA Director Boyd Mobwe says the government should find a way of collaborating with the private sector in helping to address some of the challenges farmers are facing in the country.
Mr. Mobwe says one of the biggest challenges that the farmers are facing is the persistent dry spells.
“Drought impact on Agriculture sector will not be felt once the government and the private sector invest in rural areas. Government should put a deliberate policy to engage the private sector to contribute toward mitigations to rural migration into urban areas,” he said.
He noted that there is information gap and hence the need to intensify sensitization efforts for the farmers to get the correct information.
