SMEs encouraged to hit international market

The Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) has observed the need for local Small and Medium Entrepreneurs (SMEs) to produce goods that are more competitive on the international market.
Speaking to Money FM News on the sidelines of the 92nd Agriculture and Commercial Show in Lusaka, Agency Public Relations Officer Lee Haamunji says there is an urgent need to empower local SMEs so that the goods they produce are of good quality that can even compete on the international market.
Mr. Haamunji says it is for this reason that the agency has engaged the SMEs in the country for them to appreciate the set standards for them to produce goods that are of good quality.

He says the agency has used this year’s Agriculture and Commercial Show whose theme is “Sustainable Economic Empowerment”, to bring closer SMEs for them to appreciate business opportunities so that they too can compete favorably on the international market.
Mr. Haamunji feels that local SMEs have the capacity and potential to make it on the international market saying if they hit the international market that will be good for Zambia’s economy.
Meanwhile, Mr. Haamunji says the agency is trying hard to ensure that each household and any other place is equipped with fire extinguishers.
He says the law provides that all places of work and houses have fire extinguishers so as to control the fire in an event that there is a fire outbreak.
