Vincent Mwale tips local authorities

Local Government Minister Vincent Mwale has advised local Authorities in the country not to be over dependent on the local government organizing fund for the payment of workers’ salaries.

And the Minister says he will soon present a bill to parliament known as “Repeal of the rating Act ” that will help the councils in the country to collect more rates in an effort to broaden their revenue base.

Mr. Mwale says this week some local authorities across the country have received the local government organizing fund for August.

He says the municipalities will be able to receive the local government organizing fund for this September before the end of the month.

He laments that despite been given the local government organizing fund, some local authorities are not doing enough to broaden their revenue base.

Council workers in the country threatened to go on a nationwide go slow citing the nonpayment of salaries for June and July.
