Voting in Kasenengwa Constituency in Eastern Province is underway and five wards in Western and North Western Provinces.
The local government by-elections are in Kamalamba, Liyovu, Mabili, Nkenyauna and Shikombwe wards.
Polling stations were opened at exactly 6hrs and expected to close at 18hrs.
The Kasenengwa seat fell vacant in June following the death of incumbent Victoria Kalima, who was also Gender Minister, this year while the vacancies in the wards were caused by the resignations of area councillors.
The Kasenengwa by-election is being contested by three political parties namely the ruling Patriotic Front, opposition Peoples Alliance for Change (PAC) and United Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia (UPPZ).
Over 40, 000 voters in Kasenengwa are expected to cast their votes and choose their preferred candidate.
The PF has fielded Sensio Banda, while PAC settled for John Zulu and UPPZ has Abel Ngwenya.
