The Water Resources Management Authority (WARMA) says that it has received about 945 thousand application for the construction of boreholes.
WARMA Acting Director Lemmy Namayanga has told Money FM News in an interview that borehole owners should register their boreholes to avoid the authority from allowing other people to drill a bore hole within the 30 meters radius.
Mr. Namayanga says it is important for people to register their boreholes so that the authority can know the limits when approving applications for new boreholes applications.
“The registration of boreholes will help the Authority manager underground water as well as control the sinking of bore holes in the country,” he said.
Mr. Namayanga adds that the authority has so far registered about 15,521, which he says is a small number as compared to the number of bore holes in the country.
He says the authority registers about 20- 25 bore holes in a day country wide.
“This is not a money-making venture this is to help us manage the resource and control the sinking of resources,” he said.
He has since urged borehole owners to register their bore holes before the date line approaches on the 30th of March 2019.
