The World Bank has launched a wind and solar resources atlas which was completed earlier this year from 2019 at a cost of 3.9 million dollars aimed at complementing the country’s efforts in diversifying its energy mix.
The organization has also handed over the resource mapping measuring equipment to the ministry of energy and will be in custody of the University of Zambia and the Zambia Meteorological department.
World Bank Representative Ina Marlene Ruthernberg says the bank has given Zambia resource mapping due to the information challenge that people who desire to provide alternative renewable energy sources face.
Ms. Ruthenberg says the only thing required is finding funds to explore the activities that will help investors to actualize their investments.
And Energy Minister Matthew Nkhuwa says wind and solar measuring will contribute greatly to the country’s quest to provide renewable energy and the resource report will help mitigate the effects of climate change.
Mr. Nkuwa says the resources will be used as a tool to collect data for both investments and academic purposes.
